Mishcon de Reya, a 1,000-person law firm, has restricted lawyers’ use of ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by Microsoft-backed start-up OpenAI, due to fears that client data could be compromised. Several other professional services and financial institutions, which are subject to strict regulations, have also cracked down on chatbot tools. Nick West, partner and chief strategy officer at the business, said that Mishcon has a policy in place that client and confidential firm information must not be uploaded to ChatGPT or any other models.
