Databricks, a popular data analytics platform, has acquired Tabular, a startup known for its data table format Apache Iceberg. This acquisition is seen as a $1 billion vote of confidence in Iceberg’s potential to change the economics of cloud-based data analytics. Databricks plans to work with the open source community to bring Iceberg and its own format, Delta Lake, closer together to increase openness and reduce silos for customers.
