The World Intellectual Property Organization has published its annual World Intellectual Property Indicators Report of 2023, which covers patents, utility models, trademarks, industrial designs, microorganisms, plant variety protection and geographical indications. The report reveals a surge in global patent filings, with 3.46 million applications recorded in 2022, the highest number ever recorded. China received almost half of all patent applications, followed by the US, Japan, Korea, and the European Patent Office. This growth highlights the increasing pursuit of innovation and technological breakthroughs across diverse industries.
