BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, is bullish about using big data, data science and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to help clients build better portfolios. AI models using machine learning can crunch massive amounts of data to help investment analysts assess economic conditions. Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Ernie Bot, as well as image-based generative tools such as Midjourney, are being used to exploit the technology. Jeff Shen, co-CIO and co-head of systematic active equity at BlackRock, leads a team of computer scientists, engineers, physicists, mathematicians and traditional finance analysts.
