Acryl Data, the company behind the open source data catalog DataHub Project, has completed a $21 million Series A round and unveiled a new observability solution integrated with its data catalog and governance offerings. The company was co-founded in 2020 by Silicon Valley software engineers who wanted to unify the fragmented data stack. DataHub’s origins go back to 2016, when the team at LinkedIn created a metadata-driven data catalog called WhereHows. The product was designed to provide a centralized place for data scientists to get data from a variety of sources. In 2019, the team rearchitected WhereHows with a new push-driven metadata workflow.
