Ford’s President and CEO, Jim Farley, believes that the company will be able to offer Level 3 autonomy in their vehicles by 2026, allowing drivers to divert their attention to other tasks while the car takes over the driving in certain conditions. This would make Ford the first mass-market car brand to offer this feature. However, Ford’s current hands-free driving system, BlueCruise, is under investigation by US safety regulators after being involved in fatal crashes. Farley also mentioned that the system would only operate at speeds up to 80 miles per hour on clear days.
