Baidu Inc is expanding its focus beyond its traditional search business by forming partnerships with U.S. tech giants like Apple and Tesla. Baidu is leveraging China’s overseas data transfer restrictions to enhance its cloud services and push into AI and autonomous driving technologies. The company is also collaborating with Tesla on self-driving technology, with plans to supply lane-level navigation data for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system in China. Baidu’s CEO expressed interest in exploring self-driving taxi partnerships with Tesla. BIDU shares are trading lower premarket.
