Advanced Navigation has opened a robotics manufacturing facility in Botany, Sydney, in collaboration with the University of Technology Sydney. The facility will produce technology such as fibre-optic gyroscopes and research into new products, such as light detection, altimetry and velocimetry systems for moon landings, and remote control systems for unmanned vehicles. The technology could be used to help flying taxis, self-driving cars and marine vessels navigate when they cannot access traditional GPS signals. Additionally, the facility will research indoor navigation technology to help visually impaired commuters in underground railway stations.
