The Office of Naval Research is sponsoring two teams to experiment with four-legged robot “dogs” to take on hazardous or mundane tasks on Navy ships. The teams are experimenting with the Ghost Robotics Vision 60 and the Boston Dynamics Spot Enterprise robot to test their ability to maneuver around the obstacle-filled spaces of Navy ships and to take on the underway maintenance tasks. The robots are being tested to keep their balance during high sea states, manipulate hatches, and to interact with humans aboard ships.
