On April 27th, 2022, the Mayflower Autonomous Ship left the Port of Plymouth in England, with the goal of crossing the Atlantic Ocean without any humans onboard or offshore navigational support. If successful, the voyage would establish a new benchmark for autonomous navigation at sea, proving the potential of autonomous vessels. The 50-foot-long and 20-foot-wide trimaran resembled a starfighter from Star Wars, and was set low to the water like a kayak. It was accompanied by two support boats, the pilot boat and the Talisman, for the first 12 miles and one hour respectively. The Mayflower planned to cover over 3,000 miles in approximately three weeks.
