The InterNET ZERO project is a 15-month, £250,000 research project funded by the UKRI EPSRC TAS Hub, led by Dr Michael Stead from Lancaster University’s Imagination Lancaster and Professor Derek McAuley from Horizon Digital Economy Research Centre at the University of Nottingham. The project aims to tackle the environmental, social and technical challenges presented by autonomous Internet technologies, which are becoming increasingly energy hungry and contribute to digital technology’s global carbon footprint. The project will engage with a range of stakeholders to rethink current autonomous system design and co-create new visions and pathways for more resource responsible and trustworthy Internet infrastructure.
