Researchers from MIT and Rice University have developed a computer vision technique that uses reflections to turn glossy objects into “cameras” and capture novel views that would otherwise be hidden from view. This technique could be used to see around corners or beyond objects that block the observer’s view, and could be especially useful in autonomous vehicles. The method maps reflections to estimate depth in the scene and capture images from the object’s perspective.
