Researchers at Wageningen University&Research (WUR) in the Netherlands used 3D images and computer vision algorithms to determine the optimal planting distance and harvest time for lettuce plants. The study used RealSense depth cameras and the Deepabv3+ algorithm implemented in detectron2 v0.6 to measure plant height and leaf coverage, which were then used to determine the optimal planting distance and harvest timing.
