Quarkus, Helidon and Micronaut are cloud-native alternatives to Jakarta EE and Spring, first introduced to the Java community in 2018 and 2019. In 2022, Java’s intent to be cloud-fit was underlined with the resurrection of Project Leyden and the release of Spring 6.0. Quarkus has a head start with its guiding principles and its “Early Majority” classification in the December 2021 InfoQ Java Trends Report, as well as its shift to the “Trial” bracket, according to October 2021 ThoughtWorks Technology Radar. Quarkus has released its next major version, promising additional improvements.
