The metaverse is a concept of a sprawling online universe that has gone through a rebirth in recent years. It is seen as the next version of the internet, or the spatial web, or the 3D web, with a 3D animated foundation that resembles sci-fi movies. It is being driven by the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and games such as World of Warcraft and virtual worlds like Second Life. Matthew Ball refers to it as a persistent and interconnected network of 3D virtual worlds that will eventually serve as the gateway to most online experiences. Rev Lebaredian from Nvidia believes that there has been almost no discussion about what the infrastructure underneath the metaverse is and that they are building that stuff.
