Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been around since the 1950s and has powered a vast number of digital technologies. Recently, novel chatbots, image generators and other large-language models have emerged, leading to both hype and fear. The potential benefits of AI are enormous, but the risks are just as great. To harness AI’s potential for good while minimizing its risks, proper AI governance is needed at the national, regional, and global levels, with respect for international law as the starting point.
