VIPER is a robotic rover that is being remotely driven on the Moon by human operators, with the help of AI. AI techniques are being used to help the rover detect hazardous locations, plan routes, and generate high-resolution terrain maps. AI is being used as a tool to help the rover drivers, while still keeping humans in the loop to provide a balance of risk and reward. Computer Vision is a subfield of AI that is being used to help generate these maps.
