Babylon, a UK healthtech startup, was founded in 2014 with the ambition of providing affordable healthcare to everyone on the planet. In 2018, the company’s AI-driven diagnostics chatbot passed a medical exam with a score of 81%, higher than the average mark for human doctors. The following year, Babylon raised an impressive $550m round and was valued at $4.2bn. However, the company has now been sold for scraps, due to its ambitious goals, conservative healthcare sector, and funding crunch. Despite this, many people bought into the company’s vision due to the charisma of its founder, Ali Parsa.
