Microsoft is the latest company to invest in artificial intelligence for healthcare, with the announcement of extensions to its Fabric data analytics platform and new services in its Azure cloud computing service. These new capabilities include the ability to perform analysis on multiple types of healthcare data and the use of large language models as medical assistants. Additionally, the trend of multi-modality is becoming increasingly important in healthcare, as it can unlock new insights by combining multiple modalities of data. Examples of such combined modalities include building cohorts of patients based on criteria from their imaging results and their clinical results, as well as a de-identification service which uses machine learning forms.
