AI and ML have historically been separate endeavors, but the introduction of deep learning blurred the lines between them. Today, AI is synonymous with generative AI (GAI) tools that generate human-like output, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Bard, or Meta’s Llama for text, and DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion for images. While ML is still used for most applied work, GAI tools are becoming increasingly popular. Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is a more advanced form of AI, representing a digital or silicon-based person.
