Amazon.com Inc. has invested up to $4 billion in Anthropic, a San Francisco-based AI safety and research company. The investment will give Amazon access to Anthropic’s software and computing power, as well as a financial infusion to help pay for the costs of training and running massive AI models. Anthropic has raised a total of $2.7 billion to date and is planning to build a “frontier model” called “Claude-Next” that is 10 times more powerful than today’s most powerful AI. Microsoft has invested up to $11 billion in OpenAI over the years.
