Researchers at Virginia Tech have used artificial intelligence to analyze the language used in national broadcast news from CNN and Fox News, as well as tweets from the networks and their followers. The results showed that partisan and inflammatory content has increased over time, and this content can have an effect on the public’s discussion of important social issues. Collaboration between computer science researchers and journalists is allowing for the analysis of large data sets to better understand media and its impact.
