In his keynote at the Royal Dutch Society of Marine Engineers’ (KNVTS) symposium, Volker Bertram, Senior Project Manager at DNV, discussed the trends of green shipping and digital transformation in the maritime industry. He predicted that ships of the future will become wider and shorter, and propulsion improving devices (PIDs) may become standard. He also discussed the broader trend towards cleaner fuels, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), biofuels, methanol, and ammonia. Finally, he discussed the need for ramping up production and bunkering infrastructure worldwide for clean fuels.
