India is the second-largest producer of fruits in the world, yet only exports a mere one per cent of its fruit production. This imbalance exists due to multiple challenges such as climate change, soil infertility, and gaps in post-harvest management and supply chain infrastructure. Digital innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), and cloud computing can help to address these challenges and unlock multiple benefits for the fruit crops sector. The Government of India is also taking steps to create a level playing field for farmers to make use of these digital innovations.
