With iOS 17, Apple has introduced a feature called Personal Voice which uses on-device machine learning to recreate a user’s voice. This feature has a great intended use of helping people at risk of losing their voice due to illness, such as those with ALS. To set up Personal Voice, users need to read out 150 phrases in a quiet area with low background noise, and then wait for their iPhone to process the recordings overnight. However, the processing time can take over 24 hours, making the phone unusable for a day.
