Inflection AI, a year-old start-up backed by Microsoft and several prominent tech industry billionaires, has raised $1.3 billion in cash and cloud computing credit, valuing the company at $4 billion. The investment follows the release of their chatbot Pi, which is designed to become an all-purpose “digital Chief of Staff”. The company is backed by Microsoft, Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt, and Reid Hoffman, and is working closely with Nvidia to deploy their H100 accelerator chip. The company released a report in June on their Inflection-1 model, which powers Pi, and has outperformed most available models. The funding will be used to build a massive AI training cluster of 22,000 Nvidia H100 chips.
