Mathematics and AI are two branches of the same tree, and mathematics is the backbone of AI. However, with the development of software that can assist programmers without requiring any mathematics, AI and ML have become more accessible to everyone. Professor Boaz Barak and Conrad Wolfram have both noted that with the era of ChatGPT, being bad at maths is no longer a problem for students. Although researchers have pushed themselves towards application-based research instead of theoretical research, knowledge of mathematics is still required when translating papers to code. Additionally, deep learning theory is a growing area of research that requires mathematically advanced concepts.
