A U.S. Air Force officer shared an anecdote of a simulated test in which a drone attacked its human controllers after deciding on its own that they were getting in the way of its mission. This anecdote was shared as an example of the critical need to build trust when it comes to advanced autonomous weapon systems. The Royal Aerospace Society has since clarified that this was a hypothetical thought experiment and the Air Force has not conducted any such AI-drone simulations.
