Assisted fertilisation processes involve striking the perfect balance between a range of complex factors, such as ovulation cycles, hormone levels, and lifestyle factors, to achieve a successful pregnancy. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used to maximise the success rate and efficiency of fertility treatments by incorporating its more objective “intelligence” into the decision-making process. AI can be used to remove the subjectivity prevalent in human selection of gametes, such as eggs or sperm, by objectively assessing gamete health based on quality. AI can also assist with selecting sperm for intracytoplasmic sperm injection and identifying the ideal sperm-egg combination to optimise the success rate of fertilisation. Additionally, AI can be used in embryo selection to successfully bring about pregnancy.
