OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT was tested on accounting exams by researchers from 186 universities. Although ChatGPT’s performance was impressive, the students outperformed it, scoring an overall average of 76.7 percent compared to ChatGPT’s score of 47.4 percent. ChatGPT did particularly well on AIS and auditing, but struggled with tax, financial, and managerial assessments.
