Asda is launching a trial involving ‘driverless’ deliveries of online orders of groceries in London, with two people on board to navigate and deliver the groceries. The trial, which is the largest of its kind in Europe, will use navigation systems developed by the tech company Wayve and will be backed by machine learning. Customers can place their orders online as usual and may be randomly selected to have their order delivered in a self-driving vehicle. Wayve’s system uses machine learning to train its AI software to learn from experience how to drive in any environment.
