As artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in healthcare, health system digital leaders have warned that AI can only do so much. AI can look at pixels in an X-ray, categorize patients by risk, and help doctors become better doctors, but it cannot replace the human element of healthcare. AI chatbots have started giving medical advice and health systems are using machine learning and big data to improve their patient populations, but a majority of Americans are uncomfortable with AI being used in their medical care. It is important to note that AI systems should never be used to make critical clinical decisions without human oversight.
