Researchers at the University of Liverpool have developed pioneering, legally-grounded AI models that can advise lawyers as to whether a case is likely to be successful or not. The suite of technologies are already being used in the real world and are proving to be transformative for the legal sector, replacing the need for long hours of document searching and case precedent lookup. A feature of Liverpool’s research expertise is developing a computational model of argument (CMA) that delivers explainable AI, which is used to capture knowledge about a body of case law or legislation and advise legal professionals on the applicability of the domain knowledge to a set of facts.
