To Optimize Guide-dog Robots, First Listen To The Visually Impaired

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have identified key features needed for the development of effective robotic guide dogs, based on insights from guide dog users and trainers. This has the potential to address the barriers faced by visually impaired individuals in obtaining a guide dog, such as cost and physical limitations. Through interviews and observations, the team has identified the limitations of current canine guide dogs and the desired traits for future robotic guide dogs.
