Akamai Technologies has announced a new strategy called Generalized Edge Compute (Gecko) that aims to embed cloud computing capabilities into its global network of edge locations. This initiative builds on the company’s acquisition of Linode and will allow Akamai to run compute workloads closer to end users and devices. With Gecko, Akamai plans to expand its cloud capabilities to its 4,100 edge locations worldwide, providing a more efficient and proximate solution for users.
