In recent years, the power, functionality and ubiquity of computers and the Internet have grown exponentially, yet the goal of robotics has failed to live up to the predictions of the 1950s. Industrial robots have transformed the manufacture of automobiles, but they are far from the versatile, mobile, autonomous creations that many scientists and engineers have hoped for. It is the computer-based artificial brain that is still well below the level of sophistication needed to build a humanlike robot. Despite this, there is still hope for the future of robotics as researchers continue to develop and improve upon the technology.
