Alphabet, Google’s parent company, is in talks to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Character.AI, a startup founded by two former Google employees. Character.AI allows users to chat with virtual versions of celebrities and create their own chatbots and AI assistants. The investment will deepen the existing partnership between Character.AI and Google, and the company is also in talks to raise equity funding from venture capital investors. Character.AI’s chatbots have appealed to users ages 18 to 24, who contributed about 60% of its website traffic.
