UK researchers have been promised a boost in AI development with the installation of two new supercomputers, Isambard-AI and Dawn. Isambard-AI, which is being installed at the University of Bristol, is set to be ten times more powerful than the UK’s current fastest supercomputer. Dawn, which is being installed at the University of Cambridge, is set to be fully operational by the end of the year and is benchmarked at around 20 petaflops. The announcement of extra investment in supercomputing power was made by the UK government on the sidelines of the AI safety summit hosted at Bletchley Park this week.
