Gaurav S Sukhatme, professor of computer science and electrical & computer engineering and the executive vice dean at the Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California (USC), spoke to the Times of India about the growing number of Indian students at USC choosing AI as their area of study and navigating challenges as an Indian immigrant in a leadership role in academia. He noted that there has been a long history of students from India being interested in higher studies in engineering and technological innovations, and that the interest has only grown with the addition of artificial intelligence and machine learning. There has been a steady increase in the number of Indian students at USC, particularly in the master’s program in engineering, over the last few years.
