Reinforcement Learning (RL) is a form of artificial intelligence that is being explored by Goldman Sachs for use in trading. It involves creating a “map” of the world and testing courses of action to determine the best course of action. It is particularly effective when datasets have a beginning and an end, such as derivatives due to their expiration dates. However, it is difficult to train and requires a significant initial investment. In the future, AI autopilots will assist with quant work, but not replace it. RL could also be used to predict markets.
