Researchers from MIT, the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, and elsewhere have developed a more efficient computer vision model that vastly reduces the computational complexity of the task of semantic segmentation. This model can accurately perform semantic segmentation in real-time on devices with limited hardware resources, such as the on-board computers of autonomous vehicles. The new model series for high-resolution computer vision performs up to nine times faster than prior models and has linear computational complexity and hardware-efficient operations.
