AI has been used in cybersecurity since the 1990s, and with the advent of ‘big data’, AI systems can identify vulnerabilities and automate threat detection. AI-powered cybersecurity can also provide enhanced endpoint security for remote-working devices, and respond more efficiently to traditional cyberattacks. However, AI can also be used as a double-edged sword by threat actors, as AI-driven cyberattacks are more adaptable to their environment and can learn from their mistakes. It is therefore crucial to reflect on how generative AI will transform cyberspace and to act preemptively to potential new threats.
