Taiwan has been at the forefront of the digital revolution, promoting open data since 2012. The government has made more than 36,000 documents available to date, and held its first Presidential Hackathon in 2018. Open data covers a broad range of subjects, from climate to taxes, and is a public asset that should be freely available to businesses, NGOs and academia. Private corporations are increasingly relying on government data for growth, and public-private cooperation is essential for the success of open data initiatives.
