Apple Inc. is yet to join the race to deploy advanced chatbots like ChatGPT, even though its competitors Microsoft Corp., Alphabet Inc., and Amazon.com Inc. are blazing ahead. Apple has been using AI for features like crash detection on the Apple Watch and iPhone, but the large-language model technology that powers OpenAI’s ChatGPT is different to what Apple offers today. When asked to provide a recipe for chocolate cupcakes, Siri’s response was lackluster and pedestrian, while ChatGPT was enthusiastic and detailed. The release of ChatGPT set off alarm bells both at Microsoft and Alphabet’s Google.
