Google Bard and ChatGPT are two large language models (LLMs) that are designed to generate conversational responses to questions. Both rely on LLMs to generate their “human-like” responses, however, they run on different LLMs. Google Bard uses Google’s proprietary LaMDA LLM which contains over 1.56 trillion words, while ChatGPT runs on GPT-3.5 which has a dataset limited to 2021. To compare the performance of both models, an exercise was devised to compare their performance across a variety of metrics. ChatGPT can be accessed via the OpenAI official website, while Google Bard may require joining a waitlist to access.
